❞ if i had a world of my own, everything would be nonsense. nothing would be what it is, because everything would be what it isn't! / the girl that chased the rabbit, drank the wine and took the pill has locked herself in limbo to see how it truly feels : her name is alice...

Once upon a time, a young woman fell into a deep slumber ... and farther down an even deeper rabbit hole. Led to a wondrous land by a white rabbit born from her own imagination, she tumbled into Wonderland and became lost in its woods. The first outsider to ever hear the realm's beck and call, her mind and psyche twisted the land previously untouched by humanity, shaping it from its dreary, smog-filled, dark cityscapes into a bright and vibrant land of fantasy and flower. On a quest to find the white rabbit she chased, she crossed the marshes of the land so that every place she touched grew life anew. Guided by strange creatures and mad characters, her dreams and nightmares alike gave birth to the light in a world previously only known by darkness. In the depths of the Kingdom of Hearts, she found her rabbit - and the King of Hearts threatened her head. As quickly as she'd come, she was driven away.

that's ... you? the girl who chased a white rabbit and fell down the hole to wonderland : it all sounds like a fairy tale, but a piece of her soul rests in you. perhaps it's a fragment, just enough that the denizens of wonderland are capable of recognizing you when you meet them again, but regardless of however much of alice liddell remains dormant within you, you must always remember that you are your own person. your soul is old, one that has died and revived a million times, but no matter the different lives you've lived, all of them have always converged with you finding your way back to the world you once changed as alice liddell. they all refer to you as alice now, rarely treating you as who you truly are, and now you must bear the burden passed down to you from multiple lifetimes. whether you step up for this world you once loved or abandon it: that is your choice.

❞ curiosity can kill the body but leave the soul & every ounce innocence is left inside its bones. / through the looking glass we see they've faithfully returned, but now off with their we fear is everyone's concern : you see, there's no real ending, it's only the beginning...

❞ your magic, white rabbit, has left its writing on the wall ... and we follow, like alice, and just keep diving down the hole / so this is wonderland, where all your dreams come true, where nothing's as it seems? you have to go get yours before they come get you!

route b : not everything is as it seems in this world of endless riddle. suppose there was another route, one where the no-nonsense white rabbit wasn't just a piece of alice, but rather had been her all along...! they thought she'd escaped, but the king of hearts hid her away. twisted and shaped into someone entirely new by wonderland itself, the girl they remembered had long since left their world, that's not untrue. alice became the white rabbit, his memories of his past lost to him. only king valentin knows his true identity now, but he keeps it under lock and key, desperate to hide alice liddell's true whereabouts from the jabberwocky who would seek to kill him for the sake of wonderland. darcy white is as in the dark as anyone else. he doesn't know the outsider isn't alice, in fact he believes whole-heartedly that they are! the sacrifice of the original alice would save wonderland for eternity, though...

all have reflections in the mirror : even you, alice. the looking glass, where everything is right side up and turvy-topsy ... alice liddell had existed there too, once, but where her imagination saved wonderland, it damned dnalrednow. alice never escaped heart kingdom, for what can a reflection do but the opposite? killed by queen valentine, the death triggered an apocalyptic explosion of darkness in dnalrednow which revived alice's executed soul : the black rabbit. now a land of nightmare, the looking glass acts as a home for the abandoned, dreadful nightmares conjured by the jabberwock in wonderland, with none other than alice liddell as its ruling queen. what's left of who alice was, at any rate. valtr, a reflection of the one piece of alice that had been left behind in wonderland : the white rabbit. not all hearts that reflect one-another are meant to meet.

npcs & notable characters,

With a heart made of gold, King Bill of Diamonds was once the ruler of the longstanding Kingdom of Diamonds. She cultivated a kingdom full of music and poetry, rivaling that of the Kingdom of Hearts' artistry. Beloved for its fantastical landscapes that housed luscious cities in the trees, the Kingdom of Diamonds is where many fae and beastlike creatures could be found in a mixing pot of cultures. Bill was a fair and just ruler, who stood peacefully against King Valentin of Hearts during the age of the Rose Wars following Alice's departure from wonderland. She is largely the reason for the White King's decision to implement the royal court and give the Kingdom of Hearts another chance at peaceful coexistence. King Bill and Diamond Kingdom fell shortly after Beatrice stole Heart Kingdom's throne and slaughtered all of Clover Kingdom at the surprising start of the current war, leaving everyone caught off guard.

Something that lurks in the corner of every Wonderlandians eye in the dead of night : a bright and shining young girl who only seems to appear for a second when one blinks, only to fade into the moonlight as if she had never been there at all. None know of what the reflection is, only that it seems to be a mass hallucination that even those native to Wonderland cannot explain to outsiders who fall into their realm. This being never approaches those around her, nor does she stick around long enough to truly be seen, but Dinah, if asked, may theorize that it is a piece of the original Alice's psyche that has remained ingrained within Wonderland itself. In his own words, he suspects the ghost to be connected either to Alice Liddell's desire for comfort and stability whilst she was in their realm ... or some form of trauma that she experienced prior to coming to it. What or why, he cannot say.

The Knave of Clovers has long since died with the destruction of Clover Kingdom's borders. There have been rumors of ghosts haunting the ruins of the abandoned towns left standing, however. The most popular story of which happens to be that if one adventures too close to the heart of the kingdom's former town hall, the soft cries of a girl can be heard coming from inside the collapsed building. Eliza was the name of Clover's warden, who once was responsible for the healing magicks that permeated Clover Kingdom and attracted such wildlife to its borders. Dinah once commented she bore a resemblance to Elizabeth Liddell, making her existence an enigma that left him wondering if her presence in Wonderland had ought to do with the ghost of the woman Wonderlandians could catch in the corner of their eyes whilst traveling through the marshes. Well, they'll never know now.

The current Knave of Hearts who presides over the Queen of Hearts' lands is, in King Valentin's words, a "disgusting amalgamation of those who were left behind when the rot began." Known as Marionette, the King of Hearts thinks that it is a creation made up of various corpses from the creatures that the Red Queen had slain in her initial takeover of Heart Castle. Soulless without the ability to comprehend morality at first glance, the creature behaves as a zombie that acts upon Beatrice's will. However, the longer one interacts with it, clearer it becomes there's conflict behind its own actions : whatever the creature is made out of, or whoever, the longer it is alive within the walls of Heart Kingdom feeding on its rot, the more alive it appears to become. Rather than offering silence for the victims it is made of, it has created a void in which the corpses attached to it continue to suffer with conscious awareness.

Card Suits are situated in every kingdom across Wonderland. They're silent, docile creatures made of clockwork originally crafted by those in Spade Kingdom to protect travelers who came into their borders. Since then, Spade has created a vast number of them and gifted them to all four kingdoms for the sake of making travel between kingdoms easier. Since Beatrice took the throne of Heart Kingdom, the card suits within Heart, Diamond and Clover have all become twisted, ghoulish versions of what they once were. They take demands directly from the Queen and often seek to cause harm to those who cross paths with them, whether they are hunting for them or not. Because of this, Spade Kingdom is the last remaining territory in which card suit guards are still actively to be trusted. Any cards bearing the symols of hearts, diamonds, or cloves are immediately to be distrusted.

the infernal train,

A menacing clockwork train that has stations and tracks all across every territory in Wonderland that seems to come and go without schedule or sense. It appears at random and brings destruction wherever it passes through. Seemingly a malicious, sentient force, the train is said to be made of every nightmare that the Jabberwocky has ever spun for outsiders who fell into Wonderland. Because of this, superstitious Wonderlandians believe it houses the souls of those who have been sacrificed. Anyone who has ever boarded the train has never gotten back off, outsider or otherwise. Since Queen Beatrice took the throne to Heart Kingdom, it has been running rampant across Heart, Diamond and Clover territories. Though Wonderlandians think the train seems to have a mind of its own and acts of its own volition, there is in fact a conductor aboard who controls its course of action.

the people of wonderland,

wonderlandian faeries : the bulk of wonderland's society makes up the fae, though their numbers are greatest in the diamond kingdom. mischievous, crafty, and deceitful, they're a tricky bunch to contend with. you should never make a deal with the fae, as they will often twist your intent and trap you in a dynamic you never wanted after.

nightmare fae : creatures of nightmare feared by all of wonderland, their ranks include that of the hated bandersnatch. nightmares are born from dark magicks, and thus cast out from general fae society, damned to live isolated in the realm through the looking glass. some find their way back to wonderland, but none are welcome in their society.

sirens : oft coined mermaids or mermen by surfacers, sirens are creatures of the sea who lure unsuspecting sailors and travelers alike into their turbulent waters through the hypnotic sound of their voice. they feed off the flesh and blood of land dwellers, thus capturing their prey and drowning them beneath the depths with intent to later consume them.

dragons : the offspring of the white king, dragons escaped classification as nightmares solely through their resemblance to the jabberwock himself. they are the second oldest species to wonderland behind the fae, they are extremely knowledgeable. most, if not all of them, speak in the same dialect as their father : completely backwards.

atlantians : wonderlandian fae who live beneath the waters of diamond kingdom's oceans in the lost city of atlantis, they adapted to their environment millions of years ago when their city sank to the bottom of the sea. they are more fishlike than their siren brethren, but no less mischievous. that said, they consider themselves their own kingdom.

animatronics : built during the steam age of wonderland's history, most animatronics have completely depreciated. those that remain are largely serving as card guards for their respective kingdoms, though occasionally one can still find active goliaths around old structures where they once worked. alchemists claim they do not have a soul.

flora : the flowers and plantlife that cover wonderland is more alive than most outsiders think. aside from acting as the only light source aside from the stars to the realm due to its bioluminescence, it can also speak, whisper secrets, and spread gossip quickly across wonderland. most will warn to be wary of what you say, as you never know if it's listening.

gods : those who have reached levels of divinity within wonderland are few and far between. only three gods exist within the realm, but the jabberwock is the most prolific and powerful as the creator of the world itself. the others hold their title as more of a formality, whereas he is capable of weaving and shattering reality.

immortals : those in wonderland who cannot die unless their hearts are devoured by the few denizens of the realm who are capable of permanently killing them. there are only a few who fall into this category as true immortals, as everyone in wonderland may live forever, but only a handful may not be killed at all, unless specially hunted.

mortals : those who may not die from old age, but are still capable of being murdered or grievously injured enough that they may lose their life. none in wonderland truly age, but mortals can die like any other, so while they need never fear the passage of time, they certainly do need fear the sharpened edges of that guillotine the queen threatens them with.

humes : the term fae, both nightmare and wonderlandian alike, use to refer to those who are not of fae descent, or outsiders whether they are fae of their world or not. oft also referred to as "man-things," "children of men," or simply "humans", one does not necessarily need be a human for them to refer to them as a hume. it is merely another label the fae use.

alices : the outsiders who fall to wonderland, whether they wear this title with pride or not. against their consent, the entirety of wonderland will refer to those who fall down the rabbit hole as "alice," disregarding their true name and in fact warning against telling their real name to others, as knowing outsider's names gives wonderlandians power over them.

underlandians : creatures who hail from underland, what wonderlandians unofficially equate to being a 'hellscape, full of demons.' while some of its residents are in fact demonic in nature, a great bulk of its society is made up of the nightmare fae who boarded the infernal train. little is known about underland, but it is from where the red queen hails.

"the bandersnatch existed long before alice liddell fell to wonderland," the dormouse quips, hands slamming shut the tome through which alice had been so rudely nosing. his nose twitches, as if afraid to invoke the beast's name. "it's said they were made manifest when she fell as a result of... trauma, some think. others say a desire for vengeance. you see, alice had a sister from the surface she fell, as least, that's what dinah says. a young woman named elizabeth. but her life was claimed by a fire when alice was just a little girl! there's a lot of... stories about how it happened. some say it was a terrible accident, others say dinah started it. but... some think there was someone else who alice saw start the fire to cover up a terrible crime committed against elizabeth. alice saw it happen, they say. but the fire killed the liddell family, landed poor alice in an asylum. i - i don't know what happened between her time there and falling to wonderland, of course. but many believe that when she fell to us, that anger and loss still burned deeply in her heart. through it, the soul of the bandersnatch, until then trapped in the nightmare realm, was given a physical form made manifest."

— so did the bandersnatch make their way into wonderlandian society. finding their home in the depths of heart kingdom's crypts, they built from scratch the cult of the jabberwock based upon the lies of their church, which claimed to worship the beauty which the jabberwocky had bestowed upon his created lands whilst in truth practicing forbidden magicks with the vision of returning wonderland to its pre-alice creation. they seek to destroy wonderland as it is currently known, merging it with the olden steam age of centuries long past, of which only ruins and history remain.
